He reached down with a fast hand and took a gulp of his drink, a smooth, singular motion.

I've been the one to hold your head when you puke in the loo from drinking too much, and the one who scolded you for trying something too dangerous, and the one who always, always ached for you to come back safe to me. That's everything, and it's not changing."
